Added Sugars Part II

how many sugar names are
 in the ingredient facts?

As I promised in my previous blogpost here are some of the ways sugars appear disguised in our foods.

If you happen to see any of these names on your food labels, remember to turn on your alarm bells....

anhydrous dextrose
brown sugar
confectioner's powdered sugar
corn syrup
corn syrup solids
dextrose
fructose
high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS)
honey
invert sugar
lactose
malt syrup
maltose
maple syrup
molasses
nectars (e.g., peach nectar, pear nectar)
pancake syrup
raw sugar
sucrose
sugar
white granulated sugar

There are about 4 grams of sugar in 1 teaspoon of sugar.

The average American consumes 22 teaspoons of added sugar a day, which amounts to an extra 350 calories.
